Background

Picture
Thorner Pre-school was founded in 1983 and obtained its Ofsted registration in 1999. The preschool was initially situated at Victory Hall and moved to its current location on the site of the Thorner Church of England Primary School in April 2007. The purpose built pre-school was partially funded by a grant of £100,000 from Leeds City Council and an additional grant for the outdoor area of £24,782 from SSOOS. As we are now located on the same site as the primary school and we have a close liaison with the school, the transition from Pre-school to primary school is a smooth one.

Thorner Pre-school is a registered charity.  We are registered and regularly inspected by OFSTED. Our most recent inspection in June 2017 rated us as Outstanding.

Our Objectives

  • To encourage children to develop to their full potential
  • To welcome parents and carers, establishing positive home links
  • To value and support individual children and families, regardless of gender, race, culture and ability
  • To provide good reliable childcare, where parents and carers feel happy and confident that their children are being cared for in a happy, friendly, safe, and stimulating environment.
  • To provide quality indoor and outdoor provision which challenges each child, with the opportunities for exploring, investigating and creating.
  • To give children first hand experience and encouragement to explore situations which have meaning for them.
  • To promote attitudes of care and respect in children - for their peers, our equipment and the environment
  • To recognise what children can do as a starting point, and celebrate and record their achievements
  • To encourage children to develop to their full potential we ensure staff are fully trained and informed of current childcare practices

We follow The Early Years Foundation Stage. All of our staff are trained in these areas of learning. Planning is taken from reviewing what children have done during the week and taking forward their learning and development needs. Parents are given regular updates and are welcome to talk to staff at anytime.
